Case Study #4: Personal Development Coaching Success

Situation

A client wanted personal coaching assistance to help her with a project she had put off for years. It was not a corporate project; she wanted to write a book, and could not make the time to fit it into her schedule. Her frustration was extremely high. She knew her subject and been asked by many people to write a book on this topic on which she was a recognized expert. With her many other responsibilities, both work and home, she claimed there just was not the time. Yet she felt this was the time to finally take some action.

As we met with this woman, it became clear the book project was very important to her on a personal level for two reasons: she knew she was an expert on the subject, and she wanted to eliminate the personal obstacles that prevented her from writing. We helped her identify all the obstacles that were in her way, she took control of her time (for the first time, she exclaimed) and we helped her create a schedule that ensured she made time for writing while not neglecting her other responsibilities. As a coaching client, she had goals to reach each week and made accountability calls to us to report her progress.

The client became more productive and more excited every week. She realized what it meant to understand and set priorities. All areas of her life improved as she made time for the book and other essential activities. Frustration was replaced with confidence. A book proposal was written, a publishing contract obtained, and her book was published and on the shelves within six months.
